Emma is an artist based in North London, making work through handbuilding with porcelain. Throughout all of Emma's work runs an obsession with fragility, whether it be the fragility of the material or the fact that Emma's work is almost always tapping into deeply personal emotions.

Emma's work is continuously informed in some way by her body, which doesn't always behave as she would like. Her body dictates what she does in the studio and when she is there. Clay is not just a form of expression for Emma but also a form of therapy that is as important to her body as physio and Pilates.

Scratching and mark-making on Emma's work initially began as a practical way to deal with the fact that she cannot wedge, and soon became an integral part of Emma's process and aesthetic. These marks correspond in some way to the vulnerabilities Emma is tapping into, often making the marks using tools that are relevant to the work.
Emma doesn't glaze but often adds to her work once it has come out of the kiln, using a variety of materials.
